MADISON, Wis. (WAUK) — The mishandling of hazmat material has led to consequences in Ozaukee County. Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul announced this week that his office secured a $90,000 civil judgment against Dielectric Materials, Inc. for alleged violations of hazardous waste management laws at its Ozaukee County facility.
The Ozaukee County Circuit Court approved the settlement on October 8, addressing the company’s handling of barium and lead waste from ceramic capacitor production.
According to the complaint, Dielectric Materials failed to accurately determine hazardous waste, use licensed transporters, and operate with proper licensing.
“Hazardous waste must be managed properly to protect people’s health and our environment,” Kaul said.
The judgment follows approval from the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Finance on September 26.
A statement from the AG’s office says the settlement highlights ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations and ensure proper handling of hazardous materials by manufacturing facilities in Wisconsin.
