MADISON, Wis. – Two coyotes have been spotted across the west side of Madison.

Over the last few weeks, Madison Police say they’ve gotten dozens of calls about a hurt coyote wandering around.

Staff from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Urban Canid Project said there are actually two coyotes on the west side.

One of them seems to have had a hard time walking, like he broke a leg. That was in the Nakoma and Vilas Park neighborhoods. It seems to have gotten better.

If people see that coyote, police said to use hazing methods: loud sounds and waving arms. This can actually help the animal by reinforcing fear of humans.

Meanwhile, the other coyote seems to be sick. It had been seen near Odana Hills Golf Course. It’s even stayed in the same spot long enough for people to snap photos of it. Officials said do not try to haze or scare this coyote. The Canid Project was planning to trap it so they can take it to the Wildlife Center for help.

Over the weekend, there were more coyote sightings, according to the Canid Project’s map. It was seen in the Nakoma neighborhood in people’s yards, and walking around. The spotter said it seemed healthy.
