The first post-Thanksgiving, pre-Christmas movie going weekend is upon us already. If it’s holiday films or huge blockbusters you’re looking for in the theaters over the next few days, you will have to check out films that have already been released like “Wicked,” “Gladiator II,” “Moana 2” or “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” — all of which reviewed well and audiences are responding to.

But if it’s still just a bit early and you’re not ready to throw yourself into the world of holiday films yet or are in the mood for some offbeat quirky flicks, this could be your weekend.

Sci-fi comedy “Y2K” rolls out Friday and takes us back nearly 25 years when the world was in a panic over what would happen when the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve in 1999. For better or worse, the internet didn’t go away that fateful evening. “Y2K” follows two high-schoolers who crash a New Year’s Eve party and end up fighting for their lives. The film is being called a disaster comedy, which sounds interesting but is pulling a not-quite-fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re in the mood for a Lou Diamond Phillips movie like I am 24-7, check out the horror film “Werewolves,” which tells the story of a supermoon that triggers a latent werewolf gene in anyone who sets foot in the moonlight. Is it just me or does that sound like an absolute gas? The film also stars perennial tough guy Frank Grillo, who on an average day looks scarier than any man-wolf hybrid ever could. It is a little concerning that the studios haven’t even given critics a sniff yet so beware before you put down your hard or lackadaisical earned money. (Just for the record, I actually think Lou Diamond Phillips is great!)

If you’re looking for a comedy-horror flick, the film “Nightbitch” opens this week in wide release as well. The film stars Amy Adams who plays a mom that takes time off work to stay home with her kids, but finds herself turning into a dog. You read that right. Despite the offbeat storyline, it’s reviewing fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 62%. I can almost envision a heartwarming scene at the end of the film where the kids accept mom’s canine fate and even shed a tear when she finally becomes housebroken.

If none of these choices are for you, there are always last week’s record-setting aforementioned blockbusters that should be in theaters for weeks to come. Now, let’s stop messing around and go to the movies!
