If you are a fan of the Green Bay Packers, a job at Lambeau Field may end up being a dream come true. Spencer Larson’s journey to his current position couldn’t have turned out any better. The Appleton native grew up loving the team and now works for the iconic football franchise. Larson is the Stadium Services Manager at Lambeau Field and the Packers Hall of Fame. But he believes it only happened after a lot of hard work and a life-long passion for sports.
“My career began at the age of 13 when I was a bat boy for the Timber Rattlers,” Larson explains. “This early exposure to sports sparked my love for the industry.”
Listen to Konrad Krueger’s story about Spencer Larson here:
He eventually moved out of state to work for the Minnesota Wild and Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.. He just happened to see his dream opportunity with the Packers on a job site where sports-related positions are listed. Larson had a series of interviews via Zoom – it was during the pandemic – and earned the job that would change his life.
“No two days are ever the same,” Larson says. “I oversee stadium tours at Lambeau Field and the Hall of Fame Museum. Both are huge draws for fans all year-round.”
Larson works with a team of 70 tour guides along with a staff of more than 25 at the museum. He says everyone contributes to making sure the operations run smoothly, especially during game weekends when 5,000 people walk through the iconic stadium. It’s a fast-paced job that requires careful planning, budgeting, and the constant upkeep of exhibits. One of his favorite parts of the job is interacting with visitors from around the world.
“We have people coming from outside the state, outside the Midwest, and even outside the country, all year round,” he explains. “Visitors can experience the rich history of the Packers through interactive displays and exhibits in the Hall of Fame Museum, including a hands-on football-throwing simulations with virtual appearances by legendary quarterbacks like Bart Starr, Aaron Rodgers, and Brett Favre.”
He also has an insider tip: book tours ahead of time. Many are often full months in advance and particularly during peak times like training camp.
Larson is dedicated to the team and his role in preserving its legacy. And he is helping other Packers’ fans experience the magic of Lambeau Field through his efforts at a job he loves.
