GREEN BAY, Wis (WGBW) – Individual consumers and businesses are still unable to make phone calls or send text messages through Cellcom as an outage that started last week continues.
Number porting systems with the Wisconsin-based communications company have been out since Wednesday night, leaving many companies without phone service and individuals unable to text or call anyone from their mobile phones.
In a social media update Sunday, the company said it is still working to restore the service, saying it’s “not as simple as flipping a switch.”
The company said in its updates that it is working to first reestablish core wireless voice service. Then, voice over WiFi and messaging.
Since the outage began, Cellcom has been updating consumers both through social media and their website on their efforts to restore voice and messaging services.
In addition to updates on the service outage, Cellcom has also used its social media platforms to warn consumers about scammers who might take advantage of the outage to collect logins, passwords, and financial information.
Cellcom says they have seen no evidence of compromised customer data during the outage.
