Local softball teams wins and losses over the weekend. Wisconsin Rapids Rafters kick off season on Memorial Day.

Local Softball teams have strong weekends

WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis (WFHR) – The Assumption, Nekoosa, and Wisconsin Rapids Softball teams all competed on Saturday, May 17 in tournaments hosted by local teams.

Assumption hosted the “Royal Rumble” at Robinson Park where they defeated Nekoosa 10-0 in five innings and Columbus Catholic 5-2.

After losing the opening game to the Royals, the Papermakers righted things with a 2-0 victory over Amherst.

Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln hosted a quad where they faced Hudson and New Richmond. They split the day with a 10-5 win over Hudson, but fell 4-3 to New Richmond.

Softball and Baseball playoff seeds being announced

Locally, Port Edwards was seeded eighth in the Division 5 bracket and will be taking on No. 9 seeded Alma Center Lincoln at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 at Ripple Creek Park.

Assumption was slated with a No. 2 seed in Division 4 and will host the winner of No. 7 Markesan and No. 10 Montello on Tuesday, May 27.

Division 3 has Nekoosa earning the No. 7 seed and hosts No. 10 Bloomer on Thursday, May 10 with Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln competing in Division 1 as a No. 4 seed and will host No. 13 River Falls on Tuesday, May 27.

Rafters to begin the season on Monday

The boys of summer are back. The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters are set to begin their 16th season on Monday, May 26. They will host the Green Bay Rockers at 6:35 pm at Witter Field.

The schedule consists of 72 total games from Monday, May 26 until August 9 when the regular season wraps up.

The Rafters will take on the following teams over the course of the season:

*Fond du Lac Dock Spiders
*Green Bay Rockers
*Lakeshore Chinooks
*Madison Mallards
*Rockford Rivets
*Royal Oak Leprechauns
*Traverse City Pit Spitters
*Wausau Woodchucks
