ITHACA, Wis (WRCO / WRCE) – Ithaca high school junior Clayton Lee moves on to compete at the State track meet.

Ithaca’s Clayton Lee placed 1st

Lee qualified for the WIAA DIII State track meet by placing first in the 1600m run and breaking his own school record with a time of 4:32.34. He placed second in the 3200m run, breaking his own school record with a time of 10:10.26.

This is the second year of qualifying for Clayton. Last year at the 2024 State meet, Clayton competed in the 1600m run, beating his own school record as he placed 10th.

The Ithaca/Weston runner also qualified for the WIAA State Cross Country meet in Division II the past two seasons, competing on the co-operative team of Richland Center/Ithaca

The 2025 WIAA State Track Meet begins Friday, June 6 at Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex, La Crosse with Division II and III, where Clayton will compete in the 1600m run. That evening will see Division I action; Saturday will be a combined meet of all divisions which will conclude the state meet. Clayton will compete in the 3200m run.

Ithaca has history

Fifty years ago, Ithaca saw its first State Champion in track and field, as John Jones placed first in the Class C discus.

While he didn’t top his school record mark, he was able to reach his career-long goal of reaching the top of the podium at the State meet, which was held that year at Madison Memorial Stadium.

Although neither Ithaca nor Weston have formal training facilities, the program consistently sends athletes to the pinnacle of the track season.
