Madisonians Name City’s New Electric Garbage Trucks
These are the first electric trash trucks in the state of Wisconsin.
MADISON, Wis. (WMDX) – Madisonians have named Wisconsin’s first electric garbage trucks.
Back in September, city officials announced they bought the state’s first electric trash hauling vehicles.
“These vehicles offer real world benefits,” said George Fotopoulos from Mack Trucks. “They’re more efficient, they’re quieter, they’re safer, they have lower emissions, which means they’re also healthier for the communities they serve.”
City staff started a contest to name the two trucks. They did the same thing for the Streets Division’s new snow plows.
“When we did this for our snow plows, the winning names were Dolly Plowton, Saltimus Prime, Snowbi-Wan Kenobi, my favorite. And Seymour Pavement,” said Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway.
People submitted their ideas to the streets division, and then residents got to vote. The winners were Vin No Diesel and Trash Gordon.
The vehicles are now officially part of the fleet, so Madisonians can keep an eye out for them on garbage day.
