There seems to be research available on just about everything these days. So, when this new study landed on my desk, I decided to dig in and learn if there really is something to it. Could this even add to the cheer of Packers fans this season? I quickly found — touchdowns, turnovers, and even playoff percentages have nothing to do with the research results. This one is all about the fans. And according to scientific facial analysis conducted by sports site Pickswise, it’s official: Green Bay fans rank among the NFL’s most attractive.

You may be jumping up and down, yelling, “I knew it!”

Or scratching your head and wondering why a sports site would even bother with something like this.

Listen to Teri’s story here:

Turns out, the site has researchers who love to break down almost anything sports related. And in this particular case, they could examine fan photos taken from across the league, then apply the Golden Ratio Rule. It’s a mathematical formula rooted in proportions like face height and width ratio, eye spacing, and overall symmetry which calculates an overall harmony score. The results reveal which NFL cities boast the scientifically “best-looking” supporters.

And get this – Cheeseheads score big.

Fans of the Packers earned a Golden Ratio Score of 82.45%. This is a fourth place finish out of all 32 teams across the league. And only those who cheer on the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, and New Orleans Saints rank higher — with Saints fans taking the top spot at more than 84%.

Some of Green Bay’s rivals didn’t fare quite as well. Chicago Bears fans landed near the bottom with the sixth least attractive score of 79%. (There’s a stat Packers fans may enjoy as much as a win at Soldier Field on Saturday, December 20th!)

If you are wondering, another rival, the Detroit Lions, find their fans last with a Golden Ratio Score of 77.37%. They were joined in the bottom three by Kansas City (78.47%) and Seattle (78.75%).

The full report really could be considered a tongue-in-cheek look at fanbases around the NFL. And it’s a bit of a reminder that while football fans come in every style and personality, some apparently have a bit more “scientific symmetry” than others — even if the frozen tundra forces us to cover our faces in an attempt to stay warm!

In the end, one thing may be certain. Green Bay fans love the green and gold. And thanks to the research, you can now brag about being a good-looking fan, too.
