
Iowa Grant defeated Riverdale 64-49 in boys basketball Friday night. The Panthers trailed 26-24 to the Chieftains at halftime. In the 2nd half, Riverdale led 33-32 when Iowa Grant went on a 17-0 run and took a lead for good. The Chieftains battled back to within 11 with 2:50 to go, but fell short for the second time this season against their SWAL rival. The Panthers controlled the boards as they improved to 11-6 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Riverdale fell to 2-15 and 0-10 in the league with the loss. They were led by Bevyn Dennis with 20, and Owen Blankenship netted 14. Eneral Gantugla scored 7, Conlan Walsh had 4, Henry Drone scored 3, and Eli Campbell had 2. The Chieftains made 5 three pointers and went 7 for 15 from the line.
The Panthers were led in scoring by Treaton Loeffelholz with 20, Grant Rickard had 14, Sam Lundell scored 12, and Landon Friesen was the 4th player in double digit scoring when he ended with 10 points. Iowa Grant made 4 three pointers, and went 9 for 13 from the free throw line.
Iowa Grant won the JV game 66-30 over Riverdale in the opening contest.
Following the 64-49 win, Iowa Grant will play Dodgeville on Tuesday night. Riverdale will host Wauzeka-Steuben in a non-conference game on Monday night.
