National Hospital Week: celebrating the dedication and innovation of community hospitals
National Hospital Week runs May 10-16, and it’s a great time to celebrate the more than 5,000 community hospitals in the United States for delivering care and services to patients and communities. Additionally, hospitals create jobs and support local economies. Below are some of the key data from 2024 (the most recent available data).
Nationally:
- 3.4+ Million Babies Delivered
- 33+ Million Inpatient Admissions
- 28+ Million Surgeries
- 143+ Million Emergency Department Visits
In Wisconsin:
- 54,011 Babies Delivered
- 489+ Thousand Inpaient Admissions
- 2.4+ Million Emergency Department Visits

The awareness campaign aligns with National Nurses Week, May 6-12.
Hospitals are cornerstones of the communities they serve — places of healing, hope, and connection that impact lives and communities every day in ways both seen and unseen. From delivering babies and responding to emergencies to advancing medical innovation and addressing community-wide challenges, hospitals are there when and where they are needed most. They care for patients regardless of circumstance, stand ready in times of crisis, and support local economies as trusted employers and partners.
